From Sori, a little seaside town of the Italian Riviera, we start our ride along the old creuze. Once used by farmers to move from one piece of land to the other, these narrow paths are nowadays the bones of the local biking and hiking circuits.
Breathtaking views will follow us along the way, as we pass the charming villages of Pieve Ligure and Bogliasco.
As we reach the elegant district of Nervi, our ride continues along the promenade built on the cliffs, overlooking the sea. Time for a cup of coffee, a gelato or a slice of the typical Genoese focaccia, before we continue on our journey.
Following the picturesque pastel colored houses perched on the cliffs, we arrive in Genoa, The Superb, as once Francesco Petrarca described this unique city:
“Arriving in Genoa you will see an imperious city, crowned by rugged mountains, superb in men and walls, lady of the sea”. Francesco Petrarca 1358
Genoa is not only famous for its history and unique setting; the city culinary traditions are very much appreciated by both locals and visitors. It is now time to sit down, relax and taste a selection of Genoese specialties, including the world famous Basil Pesto, served at a local restaurant.
After lunch, back on our bikes we explore the maze of alleyways that makes up Genoa medieval centre, the largest one remaining in the all of Europe. St Laurence Cathedral, the Doge’s Palace and the charming St Mathew’s Square are just some of the gems waiting for us along the way.

As we ride along Strada Nuova, marveling at the wonderful palaces with painted facades and sumptuous decorations, we travel back in time to the Golden Age of the Genoese Republic. By the 1500, the Genoese noble families had become the bankers of the King of Spain Charles V and celebrated their new found status by building palaces worthy of Kings and Emperors.
Leaving Stada Nuova behind, we cycle to the Old Port, where we reach the Lanterna and the end of your ride together. The all area was redeveloped by the Genoese architect Renzo Piano. The old cotton warehouses and docks now host elegant cafes and restaurants. Here you can fnd the Aquarium and The Galata, a multimedia museum dedicated to Genoaand its vital relationship with the sea.
Time permitting it is possible to visit the Galata Museum at extra cost.
Before saying goodbye, a delicious homemade gelato will give us the opportunity to recharge and enjoy a last glimpse of this truly unique and surprising city.
